We know, my brethren, that the Blood and Water which ran from the pierced side of our Saviour, symbolized, the Water on the one hand the Baptism and the Blood on the other hand the Holy Communion.

Below I quote a Troparion, which we chanted yesterday, Tuesday afternoon, during Vespers (Mode 3), which develops further this subject and which I very much liked, and for this reason I quote it:

«Drops of divine blood and water recreated the world, as they ran from Your side; with water, Lord, you who are full of mercy, you wash away the sins of all, and with your blood you sign their forgiveness.
