700 (PASSIONS/ STRUGGLE/ DEVIL)
Our holy father
Martinian came from Caesarea in Palestine. He grew up early in the fifth century; he lived
ascetically from the time of his
youth. When he faced a
great temptation, he
left his hermitage and
went to a
desert island; however, he
encountered the
same problem there; but the problem
continued and he started moving from
place to place, saying and reminding himself,
GO AWAY MARTINIAN AND SAVE YOURSELF…
These problems could serve as a symbolical
example for us as well. When we want to
cut off a
passion, a
weakness, the
devil enlists all his
techniques to
prevent us from our godly
objective.
So let us
do what Saint
Martinian did. If the
devil comes from the
right, we should go to the
left; if he comes from the
left, we should go to the
right… Wherever he takes us, we must
constantly flee from him, saying to ourselves:
GO AWAY….AND SAVE YOURSELF!
