664 (LANGUAGE/ CHATTER/ SILENCE) Be aware that the less you talk, the less you sin! The wise Solomon says in his Proverbs:
“Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues.”
That is, “One does not avoid sin if one chatters”. And he adds:
“The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of sense”. Which in fact means:
“If you are careful with your lips and your words,
you will be wise and prudent”. Also St. Arsenios said by his very important and true apopthegm (maxim):
“Many times when I have spoken, I regretted it, but never (regretted) when I kept my silence.” Actions will prove the truthfulness of all the above.
