721 (HOLY COMMUNION/ CHRIST/ DESCENT FROM THE CROSS/ EXTREME HUMILIATION OF CHRIST) My thought (logismos) tells me that the most correct way of looking at the Holy Communion is to see not so much the indeed glorified Body (together with the Holy Blood) of our Lord that we receive, but His Extreme Humiliation, through which He is ‘emptied’ (by kenosis) and is hidden in these Holy Sacraments… We receive, yes, the Lord of glory, who also as Man now sits at the “right hand” of the glory of the Father…
But we also receive communion with this Immaculate, all-Holy and all-pure Body which was mocked, reviled, punched, whipped, nailed to the Cross, and, after His Descent from the Cross, was buried with multiple injuries. This is what we partake, my brethren… His Extreme Humiliation, Who not only endured what I mentioned above, but also continues, like I said, to remain ‘empty’ and be hidden under the Holy Bread and the Holy Wine!!! Let us stand upright, let us stand with (holy) fear!!!
